Optical retinal occlusion & HBOT

Updated: Dec 2, 2024

This patient developed a branch retinal artery occlusion in the left eye, as well as an artery occlusion in the spleen.

This is following an episode of bacterial endocarditis due to an embolus that has shot off from the valve. The aim of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy was to try and re-oxygenate the retina in the hope that it would improve her final visual outcome somewhat.

From the picture, you can see the black which represents no vision significantly improved after 40 HBOT sessions.
