Bacterial Meningitis & HBOT

Updated: Dec 2, 2024

When my 10-month-old baby, Younis woke up feeling poorly, with temperature I went to see the doctor. He told me that it was only viral and that I should monitor him. After a few days, he was still looking very sick so we took him to the hospital where they found that he had contracted Bacterial Meningitis which was causing a build-up of fluid in the brain. He was quickly transferred to Children's Hospital in order to receive specialised care.

We were in hospital for one year until he was fit enough to be discharged. My little boy who left the hospital was a ghost himself. He no longer smiled, was having constant seizures, was non-responsive, physically disabled, and required a nasal canula. Younis also had a VA shunt put in due to hydrocephalus.

Whilst I had been in hospital I had been researching different types of treatment that would be able to help my son. I came across Sarah Dafner's story and how Oxygen therapy has really made a difference in her son's life. As soon as my son was discharged I began my block of 40 Hyperbaric Oxygen sessions.

Once we had finished the sessions, Sarah advised me to have a three-month break during which, she said I would hopefully see a lot of progress in my son, Younis. The change that I saw in my son was just unreal! My little boy is doing so well! He has just started smiling again, is more alert of his surroundings, is vocal, and has started rolling from front to back. He even can move himself around the room. The biggest miracle of all is that his seizures have stopped and he is less dependent on his nasal canular. Furthermore, the Oxygen therapy has helped Younis so that his VA shunt does not become infected.

My child was in such a bad state that whilst I was in hospital I was having end-of-life care discussions with the doctors as they were sure he didn't have long and that nothing would come of him.

I am planning to start another block of 40 sessions for Youness in the coming weeks and hope that we will see even more progress

Thank you Sarah for all that you do!
