Migraine Headache
What are Migraines?
Migraine headaches affect 10% of the world population, these headaches occur repeatedly causing moderate to severe pain. The symptoms can occur frequently and can last for hours. Migraines are a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Interestingly Migraines affects women three times more than men.
Migraines are typically described as an intense throbbing/pulsing pain on the side of the head. Some may experience nausea, sensitivity to light, dizziness and weakness during a Migraine. Severe Migraines can cause a loss of quality of life and disability and even long term damage to the brain.
How can HBOT help treat Migraines?
HBOT treatment is the combination of 100% oxygen together with increased atmospheric pressure. This process helps to increase healing time. Dr Harch, world renowned HBOT expert says "our blood vessels have been shown to be exquisitely sensitive to oxygen". Hyperbaric oxygen therapy works for migraines by causing the constriction of blood vessels in the body, which is the body’s natural response to increased oxygen.
When delivered at the time of acute migraine, HBOT can help by constricting the dilated blood vessels that cause the pulsing sensation. Through Dr. Harch’s research, he has found that if a migraine is the result of a brain injury, the resulting migraines are very responsive to HBOT.
