How can HBOT help eczema?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is the combination of breathing in 100% oxygen in a pressurised environment this results, in the oxygen dissolving into the plasma which accelerates healing. Furthermore HBOT therapy helps reduce inflammation due to the eczema, increases energy and combats infection. Research has shown that HBOT therapy reduces the severity of skin lesions as well as dryness. In addition it was also shown that HBOT has a positive effect on the reduction of pruritus intensity , improves the quality of life of these patients. Some patients who do not respond well to the standard treatments for eczema showed positive responses when they underwent HBOT therapy.
Clinical evaluation was performed in the study group as well as determination of levels of immunoglobulins: Ig!, IgG and IgE and C3 and C4 complement. All patients showed clinical improvement and a decreased IgE immunoglobulin and complement C3 level upon completion of the hyperbaric oxygen exposure cycle. The group concluded that Hyperbaric oxygen can be used as a therapy option for some patients with atopic dermatitis, especially those who are less responsive to standard treatment.
