Frequently asked questions

1. Is high-pressure oxygen safe?

Yes. Oxygen therapy has minimal side effects and our team will closely monitor you throughout the treatment.

2. Does Oxygen therapy hurt?

No. You may feel a plugging in your ears from the pressurization of the chamber, similar to what you may experience when you are in an airplane or diving to the bottom of a swimming pool.

3. What should I expect during treatment?

You'll relax in a transparent, atmosphere-controlled dome-like chamber that allows freedom of movement. You may go on your phone, listen to music, watch videos, take a nap or converse with other patients during therapy.

4. How long does oxygen therapy treatments last?

Each session takes 90 minutes

5. How many treatments will I need?

To benefit from Oxygen therapy, you'll likely need more than one session. The number of sessions depends upon your medical condition. Some conditions, such as carbon monoxide poisoning, might be treated in three visits. Others, such as nonhealing wounds ,brain injury or inflammation may require 40 treatments or more.

6. What should I wear?

Whatever you feel comfortable in.

7. What restrictions should I be aware of?

Items that are prohibited from the hyperbaric chamber include cigarettes, matches, lighters, hair or skin care products, vaseline and hearing aids.

8. How is Oxygen therapy administered?

Oxygen therapy is administered in a multi-place 6 people chamber. Windows and cameras in the chamber allows our trained technicians to closely monitor the patient and permits the patient to readily see outside the chamber.  Patients are in constant view and communication with the attending technician via an intercom. Patients in the chamber may go on thier phones,  watch a movie, listen to music, or just rest.

9. What information does the technician need to know from the patient prior to HBOT?

·    If you have any cold or flu symptoms, fever, sinus or nasal congestion, or chest congestion.
·    If there is a possibility that you may be pregnant.
·    If there has been a change in any of your medications.
·    If you have skipped a meal prior to your Oxygen treatment.
·    If you are diabetic and did not take your insulin prior to your treatment.
·    If you have any concerns or anxiety.

10. Why do I feel tired after the sessions?

After your first few oxygen therpy sessions you may feel tired as oxygen therpay involves exposing the body to pure oxygen at increased atmospheric pressure, which stimulates healing processes and promotes cellular regeneration. The fatigue experienced after HBOT can be attributed to several factors:
a) Increased Oxygen Consumption
During Oxygen therapy, patients receive higher oxygen levels than they are accustomed to, leading to increased oxygen utilization by the body. This can result in temporary fatigue as the body adapts to enhanced oxygen saturation.
b) Physiological Effects

Oxygen therapy can influence various physiological systems, including the circulatory, nervous, and immune systems. These changes, while beneficial, can cause temporary fatigue as the body readjusts to the altered state.
c) Session Duration
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions typically last between 90 minutes. Prolonged exposure in a confined space can lead to mental and physical exhaustion.

11. How are patients referred for treatment?

Patients are accepted either by self referral or by physician referral.
